The work I produce, in both 2D and 3D, are a product of an ongoing and endless fascination into the study of deeper structures, which appear in the natural world on both micro and macro levels. I have taken inspiration from an alphabet of geometric forms and the universal laws that govern all natural pattern formation.
My latest works are a collection of plates in striking monochrome for both display and function. Termed Spiral Architecture my ceramics explore asymmetry, surface, fluidity and the pendulum shift between the delicate balance of chaos and order. The patterns applied to the plate canvas are achieved by using an innovative and dynamic technique, which employs the expressive power of the potter’s wheel. The results give a lively energetic random display with a strong structured graphic sense.
Although specialising in ceramic product design I am essentially a surface designer/pattern maker creating printed variations for mass production as well as hands-on one off works of art.
